Annual College Expo
YMWIC hosts an annual College Expo and Careers that showcases different colleges and careers facilitated by our partners. This is an opportunity to expose the Scholars to various career choices and universities that may be a good fit. They also have the opportunity to speak with representatives in upper management and admission counselors.
College Tours
Scholars are taken on College Tours throughout the program year. During Spring Break, Scholars visit out-of-state colleges and universities. During the Summer Enrichment Camps, Scholars visit a local college or university every week. This is a wonderful opportunity for Scholars to gain insight on programs offered, the campus, its location, and students on campus (population, demographics, etc.), which are all important parts of college selection and campus experience. By the end of the program year, Scholars will have visited between 6 – 10 colleges and universities.
SAT Preparations
YMWIC SAT Prep is scheduled twice a year—one course in spring and one in fall. During SAT Prep, Scholars meet every Saturday morning for two hours. It is a simulation program, where Scholars learn what to expect when it’s time to take the actual test. Also, Scholars are taught how to pass and how to do well through test-taking strategies. Many Scholars’ scores have improved significantly after taking the SAT Prep course.

Job Shadowing
YMWIC matches Scholars with corporate partners within STEM and various careers. With consideration of the interest of the Scholar, we match Scholars with one of the YMWIC partners that align with their goals and interests. Once matched, they then have the chance to observe that individual in order to learn more about that career or position.
Internship (Paid/Unpaid)
YMWIC offers paid internships to YMWIC Rising Seniors in high school – through college alum who are majoring in STEM with partnering organizations. With consideration of the interest of the Scholar, we match Scholars with one of the YMWIC partners that align with their career goals and interests. Once matched, they then have the opportunity to not only observe that individual in order to learn more about that career or position, they grow and develop essential skills as they complete relevant and meaningful tasks.
Resume & Interviewing
During Resume Writing, Scholars learn how to enhance their resume using their current and past experiences. Scholars are also able to add any YMWIC experiences, such as their community service, workshops, job shadowing, internship, etc.
Next is Interview Practice. Scholars participate in mock interviews to review and practice interview etiquette, dress code, company research, articulation and the proper questions to ask as well as responses given.
Public Speaking
Scholars are provided the opportunity to take Public Speaking and Branding Training. During the training, they are taught about tone, body language, eye contact and voice control. After Scholars have completed their training, they are then asked to present a dissertation and presentation in front of an audience based on a topic of their choosing.
This is great practice for our SIGs Program (Special Interest Group): Civics and Debate Club.
Summer Jobs
We are currently working on our summer job opportunities for our High School Scholars.
